About

A publication about water, pipes and doing right by both

Earth Plumbing is an Australian eco-plumbing information service. We publish practical guidance on green plumbing, and we answer the questions readers send through our form. That is the whole operation, and we would rather tell you so in the first paragraph than let a stock photo imply otherwise.

What this site is

An almanac, not a brochure

Most plumbing websites exist to make a phone ring. This one exists to make household water systems make sense: why the drain gurgles, what the drip costs, what the standard actually requires, and which jobs belong to licensed hands.

The eco in eco-plumbing is measured here in litres, not leaf logos. A tap leaking one drip a second wastes more than 12,000 litres a year, on the Australian Government's own figures. Fixing it is environmentalism of the most practical kind, and explaining that fix well is our contribution to it.

Because we sell nothing and quote nothing, our only currency is being right. Every figure on this site traces to a named external source: government programs like WELS at waterrating.gov.au, the standards framework behind the Plumbing Code of Australia, and the government's YourHome water guidance. Where we have no source, we say so or we say nothing.

What this site is not

No trucks, no team page

Earth Plumbing is not a plumbing business. There is no crew, no fleet, no premises, no 24/7 hotline, and you will find no invented versions of any of those things here: no stock-photo "team", no years-of-experience counter, no response-time promise we could never keep.

What you will find instead is the trade's one non-negotiable, stated as often as it needs stating: plumbing and drainage work in Australia must be done by a licensed plumber. We explain the work; a licensed plumber does it. That division of labour is honest, and it is also simply correct.

When a guide points at a specific operator, it says so in plain sight and it is a pointer, never a promise made on their behalf. Everywhere else, your state's licensing register is the right place to check any plumber's ticket.

The enquiry desk

What happens to a question

The form on the contact page is the site's one channel, and it works like writing to any publication's desk. We read your question, we reply with guidance: what the symptom usually means, what is safe to check yourself, what a licensed plumber should be asked to do, and which of our guides covers the ground.

We do not dispatch anyone, charge anything, or promise a response time. If a question is beyond guidance, the honest reply is "this needs a licensed plumber, promptly", and that is exactly what we will say.

The house rules

How the writing is kept honest

Cited or absent. Numbers carry sources; claims without one do not ship.

Illustrated, not staged. The imagery on this site is a commissioned set of technical illustrations. Nothing here pretends to be a photo of our premises, our people or a job we did, because there are none.

Severity called straight. Guides mark what can wait, what is a weekend job, and what needs a licensed plumber now. We would rather lose you to a plumber's phone number tonight than keep you reading while a gully overflows.

Region-correct. Australian standards, Australian figures, Australian conditions. Advice written for another country's plumbing codes is worse than none.

The enquiry desk

Tell us what your plumbing is doing

Describe the symptom, the fixture and how long it has been going on. We read every enquiry and reply with guidance and a sensible next step. Anything that needs tools is a licensed plumber's job, and we will say so plainly.
